If you are thinking about selling your Disney Vacation Club contract, the question we hear most is simple: will Disney buy it back? Each month we review every contract our team tracked through Disney's Right of First Refusal (ROFR) process and share what happened. Here is what the October 2026 numbers showed.
The short version: Disney exercised ROFR on just 2 of 100 contracts that received a response in October. That is a 2.00% ROFR rate, one of the lowest of the year.
October 2026 ROFR Results at a Glance
Figures come from DVC Resale Experts' internal tracking of contracts submitted to Disney for ROFR review. Contracts are counted in the month Disney responded. Seller and buyer details are never shared.
How Does October Compare to Previous Months and Years?
October's ROFR rate was well below the 2026 pattern we have seen so far. Here is how each month compares in our tracking:
Looking at October across several years, the drop is clear. In October 2025, Disney took 8 of 81 contracts (9.88%). In October 2024, it took 6 of 83 (7.23%). Two of 100 is the lowest October rate in our tracking.
One month does not make a trend. ROFR activity has swung widely this year, with a spring spike followed by a quieter summer and fall. But it is a good reminder that ROFR is the exception, not the rule. In October, 98 out of 100 sellers closed without Disney stepping in.
Which Resorts Had the Most Activity?
Here is how the busiest resorts looked in October. Resorts with fewer than five contracts are left out because the sample is too small to mean much.
Saratoga Springs led the month by volume, with 18 contracts and no ROFR activity. The Polynesian and Grand Floridian held the highest prices per point, while BoardWalk contracts sold closest to their list prices on average.
The Two Contracts Disney Took
Disney exercised ROFR on two contracts in October, both on October 14:
- Animal Kingdom, 400 points: $103 per point, against a $104 list price (99.04% of list)
- Old Key West, 260 points: $74 per point, against a $77 list price (96.10% of list)
Both were large contracts, and both sold close to their asking prices. Two contracts is too small a sample to draw firm conclusions, but it fits what we usually see: contracts priced aggressively relative to the market are more likely to attract Disney's attention, while contracts sold at a discount to recent comparable sales tend to pass. Disney also tends to look at Use Year, point balance, and resort demand.
Does Contract Size Matter?
Smaller contracts commanded higher prices per point, which is typical. Larger contracts usually sell for less per point because fewer buyers are shopping for them. Both ROFR'd contracts this month were in the 200-point-plus range, but with only two cases we would not read much into it.
What This Means If You Are Thinking of Selling
- ROFR is rare right now. With 98% of October contracts passing, the odds were strongly in sellers' favor.
- Expect about two and a half weeks. Disney's average response time was 16.9 days, though some came back in under a week and a few took more than a month. Plan your timeline accordingly.
- Price to the market, not to a wish. The average contract sold at 94.52% of list. Pricing realistically from the start helps you sell faster and avoids drawn-out negotiations. Our guide to how ROFR works explains what Disney looks at.
- Do not assume the pattern will hold. ROFR rates were above 20% in March and April. A strong month is good news, not a guarantee, which is why working with a broker who tracks this every month matters.
