MASKS OFF, EARS ON!

Masks off, Mickey Ears on- (Ok, we never really take them off.) As of February 17, 2022, Disney will be suspending their mask mandate for fully vaccinated guests, making masks optional for those vaccinated in indoor and outdoor areas. Guests that are not fully vaccinated are still expected to wear their masks in all indoor areas. The decision for Disney to suspend the mask mandate follows Universal Studios mask mandate suspension earlier this week. 

The Walt Disney World Company states that the mask mandate will still be in effect until February 17 and that guests are still required to wear masks and face coverings for all enclosed transportation. This includes, but is not limited to the Disney Skyliner, monorails and buses. Disney will also still be requiring face coverings on transportation for guests staying on the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. The TSA’s face covering mask mandate is still in effect until March 18, 2022- which is most likely why the mandate still exists for all enclosed transportation around the resorts. (No, The Tower of Terror does not count as transportation.)

As of now, Disney is not requiring proof of vaccinations or lost glass slippers at the door. They are going by the honor system, and ask that all of their guests that are not fully vaccinated still wear a face covering in all indoor areas: this includes all dining and indoor theaters and attractions. The mask mandate suspension doesn’t just apply for Disney guests, but also Disney employees. Disney employees that have been vaccine verified will be allowed to go mask free if they feel comfortable doing so. 

Even with the indoor mask mandate in place throughout the start of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, Bob Chapek (Disney CEO) recently stated that he was extremely pleased with the 7.2 billion dollars of earnings in Disney’s first fiscal quarter of 2022. Those numbers reflect Disney’s earnings from Parks, Products, and Experiences, making it it’s second best quarter segment yet. Note: Disney’s fiscal year ends the last Saturday in September, and starts in October.
