Star Wars: Galactic Star cruiser 2-Night full immersive adventure experience is finally opening March 1st, 2022, and Disney is officially taking voyage reservations for everyone. ( First in line were Club 33 members, then Disney Visa Card Holder Members, then DVC Members, then… you get it.) This adventure will be out of this world, being that it’s not only a resort- it’s a three day / two night mission where you and your family get to live in your own Star Wars Storyline! It really is the first of its kind.

The Disney Crew is being very tight lipped and they are keeping the details pretty vague of what exactly is on the cruiser, Halcyon. They LOVE the element of surprise. ( I even called to book a trip myself and I got limited availability, but a very friendly Disney Customer Service rep.) So here’s what we do know. Keep reading because we go over why NOT to use your DVC points for this Disney Experience. This is very important for DVC Members!

1.)  The first day of the voyage you will arrive at 2pm at the Walt Disney World Resort Terminal, where they will direct all passengers to the launching pad, avoiding park traffic.

2.) The voyage will come with a storyline itinerary, where you get to pick your own plot and your own adventure as you solve a secret mission.

3.) You will have a view of space from your suite or cabin!

4.) The price of the space travel on Halcyon includes all Star Wars in-cabin entertainment, lodging, and your meals. (Two Breakfasts, Two Lunches, and Two Dinners.)

5.) Star Wars Characters will be out and about the spacecraft to interact and get photos with!

6.) You can only book the voyage over the phone- no online booking as of now. 

7.) The rates are locked in with hardly/ if any fluctuation over the next 6 months. 

This leads me to the most important topic to bring to your attention! 

IT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO USE YOUR DISNEY VACATION CLUB POINTS. All of your points ( and probably then some) will be in a galaxy far, far away. Seriously. Rent them out*, or pay cash. 

I spoke with a Disney Representative today about booking the Star Wars Cruiser standard cabin for two adults, two children. I was quoted somewhere between $5,500-6 for all four people. Again, that’s lodging, meals, and on board entertainment. 

For DVC members, it is 295 points per adult and 86 points per additional passenger. The cabin can hold up to five Star Wars fans, however for our family of 4, it’s a total of 762 points (295 + 295 + 86 + 86). Let’s break this down.

We get the true cost per point per year of your DVC points by taking the price per point you paid and dividing it by the number of years on the deed at the time of purchase.  If I bought Copper Creek at $148.11 (DVC Resale Experts average sold price for Copper Creek over the last 12 months), we would divide that by 47 since there are 47 years remaining on the deed.  This gives us a price per point per year of $3.15.  Now we have to add the annual dues for 2021 of $7.59, giving us a total cost per point per year of $10.74.

Adult 1- 295 points x $10.74 = $3,168.30 (ok, so you see where I’m going already)

Adult 2- 295 points x $10.74 = $3,168.30 

(So far we are at…$6,336.60..stay with me.. we haven’t even added the kids yet.)

1st Child (9 and up)- 86 points x $10.74= $923.64

2nd Child (9 and up)- 86 points x $10.74 = $923.64

GRAND TOTAL (762 points x $10.74) = $8,183.88 

By not using your points and paying cash you will save a minimum of $2,683.88. That’s lodging for an entire Disney vacation or 149 Mickey Ear Hats without personalization. For now, remember, when it comes to Disney Experiences (cruise ships in the water or ships in space- don’t use those precious DVC points!)

If you want to put your points to a better use, you can easily rent out your points, pocketing about $15 per point. You would only need to rent out between 367 to 400 points to pay cash for this galactic voyage...not 762 points.
