I Don’t Care About Home Resort Priority. Which DVC Resort Should I Buy?

Some Disney Vacation Club members would gasp at the thought, however for others, Home Resort Priority isn’t that important. I happen to be one of these individuals. I don’t plan to stay at DVC Resorts during peak seasons, I love staying at all the different resorts, and I sometimes use my points to stay at RCI resorts. If you’re trying to decide which DVC resale contract to purchase, let’s boil it down based upon your goals. If you’re looking for the absolute lowest total cost per point per year, that would be either Saratoga Springs or the Polynesian. To determine this, we’ve taken the average DVC Resale price per point and divided it by the years remaining on the deed. Then we add in the dues per point, giving you the total cost per point per year. We’ve provided a table below with this broken down for each resort. Almost daily, I hear someone say they want a contract with fewer years remaining because they don’t want to pay as much. This is a huge misconception, as DVC Resale values don’t necessarily reflect that a resort’s deed has fewer years remaining. As you can see below, those with the fewest years remaining all have the highest total cost per point per year. So the question is, do you want to pay as little out of pocket as possible, or do you want the best value? If your goal is to pay as little out of pocket as possible to purchase, then Vero Beach and Hilton Head are great choices. Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and Aulani are also great choices. Don’t forget to look at the dues though, as Vero Beach and Hilton Head may have the lowest DVC Resale cost per point, however they have the highest dues. It’s important to keep three key factors in mind when choosing the right DVC Resale contract for you and your family. The economic value of a DVC Resale contract is determined by price to purchase, years remaining on the deed and dues. You can use this information to easily determine how much owning a DVC Resale will cost you per night to stay in Deluxe DVC Resorts. To see just how little you pay per night as a DVC Resale member, if you purchase at Saratoga Springs and use your DVC Points to book a room for 16 points per night at the Polynesian, this room is costing you 16 points X $9.77 = $156.32. That’s an incredible rate for Disney’s deluxe resorts. That would even be a great deal for staying at Disney’s All-Star resort.
