What Do You Lose If You Buy DVC Resale

What Do You Lose If You Buy DVC Resale

Disney Vacation Club is the magical timeshare that brings you to Disney Destinations in deluxe accommodations year after year. It was said to be the best kept secret. Now the best kept secret is resale Disney Vacation Club. With resale, Members enjoy the same great vacation experiences but at a much better price! As with all higher priced purchases, you’ll want to know the details of how things work before you jump in. There are a few differences when compared to buying direct. So what do you lose if you buy DVC resale? Some things you don’t lose when you buy resale DVC are the incredible savings. Members often pay thousands less buying resale instead of direct.

For clarification, those eligible for the following perks are Disney Vacation Club Members who have what’s referred to as a blue Disney Vacation Club Membership Card. In order to qualify as a new Member, you would need to purchase 150 points through Disney directly. Of course, that comes at a much higher price than buying resale. It’s good to weigh the options and consider what’s most important to you.

Comparing the Magic: What Do You Lose If You Buy DVC Resale

You lose discounts if you buy DVC resale

Oh, discounts. Everyone loves discounts. Consider you won’t be eligible for Disney Vacation Club discounts on Theme Park Tickets, shopping, recreation and dining with resale. However, these discounts aren’t available all the time and it’s likely you have access to similar discounts if you have a Disney Chase Visa or are a Disney Annual Pass holder!

Buying direct comes with the most flexibility in booking

Disney Vacation Club has a diagram so you can see exactly what is included with DVC resale. In the infographic you can see some of the specifics of where you may or may not be able to book as a DVC Member who purchased through resale. When you buy resale DVC, there are booking restrictions. Resale DVC Members can not use points to book the Disney Collection Resorts (these are different than DVC resorts), Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney or the Concierge Collection.

It’s also important to note that if you buy DVC resale at Disney’s Riviera Resort you will only be able to book there. On the contrary, if you buy DVC resale with any other location as your Home Resort you will not be able to use your points to book at Riviera. On the plus side, the other 14 original Disney Vacation Club resorts are interchangeable when it comes to booking on points. That means if you buy resale DVC at one of the first 14 resorts, you can book at any of those other 14 resorts.

Member Events are not included with resale

Note that resale Members aren’t able to cruise on Member Cruises. Resale DVC Members also aren’t eligible for Membership Events like Moonlight Magic. Member Events sell out and often have some other qualifications like you must have a room booked at the time of the event. There may also be a fee so these are not always free events for those who qualify to attend.

Access to Member lounges is a perk you lose if you buy DVC resale

A highlight for some DVC Members is getting access to exclusive Disney Vacation Club Member lounges. Disney World has a few like the Top of the World Lounge and the Imagination Pavilion lounge at Epcot. Unfortunately, when you buy DVC resale you do not become eligible to visit these or other special places for Members. You may be a rope drop to fireworks kind of planner, getting in as much as you can each day. If so, these might not be important to you anyway.

What do you lose with resale? You don’t lose your DVC status if you add on resale points

There is something important to note with Disney Vacation Club resale and adding on points. If you already qualify for the blue, digital DVC Membership Card and all of the extras and perks, adding on points through resale will not change that or your status.
