Are Costco Travel Disney World Vacation Packages Worth It?

Are Costco Travel Disney World Vacation Packages Worth It?

These days, Disney World vacations are pretty pricey. To pay the lowest rate, shopping around for deals may be your best bet. There are a few different ways to book a Disney trip. Many hire an Authorized Disney Travel Planner to help with the details and make sure they don’t miss out on any deals. These travel specialists are fee free and actually make a commission on vacations they book at no additional cost to you. Others enjoy the planning process and do it all themselves. Everything is different if you’re a Florida resident or visit often enough to purchase an annual pass. For those looking to book a vacation package including things like a hotel room and tickets, that can be done on the Disney website or other places like through Costco. Can Costco Travel Disney World vacation packages actually save you money? It turns out Costco has much more to offer than bulk goods!

Costco Travel Disney World Vacation Packages

First, a little bit about Costco Travel. Costco is a wholesale store where you must have a paid membership in order to shop. The travel program is offered as another service to Costco members. You do need to provide a valid membership number and last name in order to use Costco Travel. Members can visit CostcoTravel.com to price out and book vacation packages. At this time, Disney World vacation packages consist of hotel and tickets as the Disney Dining Plan has not returned since the 2020 reopening.

Is Costco Travel a Good Deal for Disney World?

Let’s price out a trip for two people to see if Costco Travel provides better prices for Disney World vacation packages. Though there isn’t a visible special to click on or advertised savings, a quick search and a few selections in, I can see a “Winter Contracted Rate” is applied to the hotel and ticket package I’m pricing out through Costco Travel. The resort I selected is a moderate level property, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and the room style is a One King Bed room in one of the classic buildings, not in the tower. I selected five day theme park tickets with the park hopper option added for both travelers. With those specifications and for the dates of November 14th through the 19th of 2022, the price through Costco Travel is $3149.83.

To my surprise, Costco Travel does offer a better rate when compared to the very same vacation package on the Disney website. Through the Disney website at the exact same time for this same resort and these tickets for two people, the price is $3,457.30. Overall, that’s a savings of $307.47! With a Costco membership starting at $60.00, it makes sense to look into it but it’s definitely worth it if you already have a membership. Remember that vacation prices go up and down as Disney has dynamic pricing based on demand. If you try to price this same trip out, the resulting cost may be higher or lower based on availability.

Have a look for yourself and see if the time period you’re interested in traveling in has some sort of discounted rate available through Costco Travel. Note that prices vary greatly if you change the resort, number of days, time of year or amount of people in your travel party. For a true comparison, keep all of the details the same when comparing Costco Travel and the Disney World website in search of savings.

More Disney World Trips Costs to Consider

Other costs not included in this vacation package outside of travel to Orlando are overnight resort parking, which is $20 per night for self and $33 per night for valet at this resort, and transport to and from Walt Disney World. It’s also possible to book a rental car through Costco Travel in your package. Rental car companies might include Alamo, Avis, Budget or Enterprise all with a pickup at Orlando International Airport. At the time I looked, a small car was running around $300 and a larger SUV type vehicle was priced at about $500 for this November time period. Remember Walt Disney World Resort provides complimentary transportation around the property, to and from the parks and Disney Springs by way of bus, boat, monorail and Skyliner.

Costco Travel includes important details like the fact that you need a park pass reservation in addition to your ticket in order to get into a Disney Park right now. Even if you have a room reservation. There are also additional paid add ons you may want, like the FastPass+ replacement Disney Genie+ which costs $15 per person, per day. This package also doesn’t include any dining so that’s another part of the budget to consider. With Costco travel, it states tickets cannot be redeemed outside of the dates you have chosen for admission so that’s something to note as well.
