Disney Vacation Club (DVC) 2020 Prices - Direct vs Resale Costs

What does it cost to purchase Disney Vacation Club (DVC)? Is it better to buy directly from Disney or purchase resale? With so many options, we wanted to create an easy way for you to compare, so we’ve provided a table comparing prices when purchasing directly from Disney, and average prices on the resale market. Prices on the resale market are significantly lower, and you can buy points at any of DVC’s 15 resorts for a fraction of the cost (up to a 50% savings). Disney’s direct prices are set by Disney and are non-negotiable, although they offer promotions which slightly reduce the price per point when purchasing a larger contract. On the resale market, asking prices are determined by the seller, and are negotiable. The ultimate sold resale values are determined by supply and demand, showing an accurate picture of what buyers are willing to pay.

Minimum Point Requirements

If you’d like the DVC Membership benefits, such as discounts on annual passes & dining, ability to attend Moonlight Magic events, and the ability to use points to book within the Disney Collection, then you must purchase a minimum of 100 points directly through Disney, unless you already have these benefits. There is some misinformation floating around about the number of points you can purchase direct, so let’s clear that up. If you’re already a DVC Member and want to add on, and are looking for just a few more points, or if you’re not yet a member, and just want a few points to stay a few nights each year and the benefits aren’t important to you, here are the minimum number of points you can purchase depending upon your home resort:

• Copper Creek & Riviera: 75 point minimum purchase
• All other DVC Resorts: 25 point minimum purchase* 50 points is the minimum DVC will finance with a direct purchase.

What’s Best for Me and My Family? DVC Resale or Direct?

In order to receive DVC’s membership benefits, you have to purchase at least 100 points direct, so if these benefits are still important to you, consider buying 100 points direct, but first, buy your resale points. Disney will match your use year when you buy direct and already own a contract. If you’re looking for less than 100 points, then resale is the obvious choice, since you won’t get the direct benefits anyway. Another matter to keep in mind if you’d prefer to buy direct is the fact that 12 DVC resorts are “sold out.” A predetermined number of points can be sold for each resort, and once a resort is sold out, the only contracts available for purchase at those resorts are those that Disney has bought back through ROFR or that they receive back due to foreclosure. These contracts are sold quickly, as there is typically a waiting list, so you may have to be patient and wait to be able to purchase the contract you’re wanting. There are typically more options available on the resale market for you to choose from, and you’ll find them at a much lower price than direct.
