The Details: Letter From DVC Stating What Perks DVC Resale Gets

In a letter sent in 2016, Ken Potrock, then Senior Vice President & General Manager of Disney Vacation Club & Adventures by Disney, shared new details of restrictions for resale. Membership Extras such as discounts, experiences and events were reserved for those who purchased from Disney directly from this point forward. Prior to this restriction, booking restrictions had been put in place against those who did not purchase directly from Disney as early as 2011.

Years later in 2019, resale restrictions were upped again with the pending introduction of Disney's Riviera Resort. This is where it gets really interesting with Disney Vacation Club essentially separating the resorts open at this time from any new one yet to open. The original fourteen Disney Vacation Club Resorts became their own tier in a way. If resale is purchased at one of those Home Resorts, those points can be used to book at any of the others.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

Disney's Beach Club Villas

Disney's Boardwalk Villas

Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

Disney's Old Key West Resort

Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa and Disney's Vero Beach Resort

Disney's Riviera Resort was the fifteenth Disney Vacation Club Resort and fell into its own special category. Those who buy resale DVC points at Disney's Riviera Resort can only use their points to book there. And, if someone buys resale DVC points anywhere but Riviera, they can not use those points to book at Riviera. Disney Vacation Club's wording seems to imply, or at least leaves it open, that it could be this way for all additional DVC resorts that open as well.

What's been really nice for resale DVC Members is recent additions like those at The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The new rooms added became a part of the original Disney Vacation Club Resort at the hotel and not an additional and separate resort that is unable to be booked with resale points. Outside of this scenario is a situation like the addition of Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This was a considered a new DVC Resort at this property and sold separately from Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. New and separate resorts at existing resort properties that open like this after the addition of the 2019 booking restriction would seemingly not be bookable with resale DVC points.

Upon first mention, the wording used by DVC makes it seem that the tower being added to Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is also an addition to the existing DVC Resort. If so, this would make it part of one of the original fourteen Disney Vacation Club Resorts and bookable with resale points.

So while restrictions stop those with resale DVC points from booking at Disney's Riviera Resort, not every new DVC addition moving forward will fall into that same category.

The most exciting part of Disney Vacation Club is the ability to commit to years of Disney vacations in advance and pay today's rate for trips in the future. Resale makes DVC that much more affordable or makes your dollar reach even more points.
