At the D23 fan event in August of 2024 we learned an entire Monsters Inc. land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney shared at that time that there would be a door rollercoaster taking inspiration from scenes from the film. We now know this Disney World theme park land will include attractions and places to eat and shop. In November of 2024, Disney released more detailed concept art confirming Monsters take the place of Muppets in the park. So what's in the Monsters Inc land at Hollywood Studios? When does the door rollercoaster open? There has been speculation about where it's all going. Is Muppets going away? Here's what we know and what we're waiting to find out.

Monsters Inc Land at Hollywood Studios Details

Last summer’s D23 event, brought a lot of news about what's coming to Disney in the future. A November 2024 update gives us more clues about the land, particularly in the concept art.

Disney says, “the new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show.”

Important note: The concept art and blog posts shared on the Disney Parks Blog do confirm that this Monsters Inc. land replaces Muppet Vision 3D and the surrounding muppets area. Disney did also share that Muppets will be replacing Aerosmith at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster though so they will still have a presence at Walt Disney World.

So in the new Monsters Inc. land we can probably expect the following.

A Monsters Inc. Door Coaster is Coming to Hollywood Studios

There will be a Monsters Inc. door coaster in a new space in the back of the land. It looks like this takes over an area near the former theater used for Star Wars weekends, the Frozen singalong and, way back in time, The Hunchback of Notre Dame show.

In March of 2025 at SXSW, Disney released this visual of the loading area and ride vehicles for the Monsters Inc roller coaster.

The Monsters Inc. Land also has a whole new theater show

A whole new theater show is set to join the Monsters Inc. land and it looks like it will take the place of Muppet Vision 3D. That building is shown to have a marquee out front, dressing it up like a theater.

Harryhausen's Restaurant from Monsters Inc. is taking over Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano

The Monsters land will have dining, likely with multiple restaurant options. PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano will be transformed based on the artist concept. You can see the Harryhausen's building in the spot where Mama Melrose currently sits. That's the restaurant where Mike Wazowski takes his girlfriend out to dinner in the Monsters Inc. film. It looks like PizzeRizzo could remain a quick service dining location based on what's seen in the artist concept.

Monster gift shops will also be in the Hollywood Studios land

Shopping will also be part of the monster land. We can usually expect a gift shop waiting at the end of an attraction. Disney has moved away from that recently with Tron Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind having shopping opportunities nearby. In the concept we can see the large, themed Muppets merchandise store is removed and a courtyard stands in its place. It’s a Wonderful Shop is also in this area and could be a new monster shop. This was the small Christmas shop that never reopened after the pandemic but was used for a Santa meet and greet.

When is the Monsters Inc. Land opening at Hollywood Studios?

We have no opening time frame for when the Monsters Inc. land at Hollywood Studios will open. The artist concept shows a complete land overhaul with repurposed spaces, some potential demolition and also a new building. With no closing dates for muppets shared, it could be a few years.
