Disney Vacation Club is the point based Disney timeshare that allows its Members to book Deluxe Disney resort stays at better prices than paying cash. The DVC per point prices are almost always a better deal on the resale DVC market. Depending on the contract, home resort and point value, it's possible to save thousands or even tens of thousands on Disney Vacation Club when you buy resale. Will DVC resale prices go down?

Historically, Disney Vacation Club raises prices every year or every few years at each resort. In the early days of DVC, per point prices for different resorts were the same. As time went on and more resorts were built, per point prices began to vary at each resort based on driving factors like location and popularity. When the original Disney Vacation Club Resort opened in 1991, now Disney's Old Key West Resort, the cost was around $50 per point. As for prices today, Disney's Old Key West Resort was recently raised to $200 per point.

Disney now has set per point prices for each home resort. These rates are non-negotiable and don't go down, they actually go up each year or so. The only slight exception is when Disney offers specials on properties they are actively selling. Right now that's Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa, Disney's Riviera Resort and The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Even with Disney specials applied, resale prices are usually surprisingly lower. All of this is important in relation to DVC resale because resale prices are often affected by Disney's rates. 

If you want to buy a Disney Vacation Club Membership or add on points at the best possible rate, take a look at DVC resale prices first. Even as some resorts near their deed expiration and have only a few years left, the contracts will still have value for potential buyers as long as they're saving when compared to paying cash. 

If you've decided you want to join Disney Vacation Club but are considering the timing, it's likely your best bet to buy in and book your next vacation with your points. Disney doesn't lower prices, they only offer those specials from time to time, and while resale DVC prices fluctuate from month to month it's not in a way that gives us reliable patterns to follow. If anything, DVC is only getting pricier and, once you're committed to buying, the best time to buy is when you find the right contract for you.
