DVC Resale is often much less expensive.

The main reason people buy Disney Vacation Club resale is the price. The savings are usually unbeatable, even if there is a DVC special or incentive. The amount you save does vary depending on details like the home resort, the number of points you buy and more. In most cases you'll love how much more affordable it is.

Some prices to compare in 2024 are Disney's Old Key West Resort at $205 per point direct from Disney versus $75 per point on average on the DVC resale market.

A rough estimate based on those averages would mean a savings of more than half off. That's significant when you're buying something in this price range! Note not every Old Key West contract will cost that much per point. See current Old Key West DVC resale contracts for an idea of the range you could pay depending on the number of points you buy.

Something else to note, the direct price is up from $180 in 2022. That's when this post was originally written. We see DVC direct prices go up every year or so. If you stayed at Disney's Old Key West Resort in 2022, 2023 and 2024, the amount you would have spent could have purchased a small resale contract or put a good amount down on a big one.

There are great options on the DVC resale market.

Disney Vacation Club is actively selling a few resorts that aren't "sold out" yet. That includes Disney's Riviera Resort, Aulani A Disney Resort and Spa and others. You can inquire about buying points at other home resorts but DVC has its own business goals and inventory to manage.

When you shop around for Disney Vacation Club contracts available for resale, the options are likely to be greater. There isn't the same transparency regarding what is available for sale through Disney directly. You aren't able to search on the Disney Vacation Club website for prices of all of the resorts or see what's available.

There is ease and clarity when you're looking at the DVC Resale Experts current resale DVC listings. You can see the entire stock available, how much each contract costs, the differences in per point prices and anything else you want to know. The points available on the contract and use year are both clear upfront too.

When it comes to resale DVC, the booking system is the same. The home resort choices are the same and the point charts work the same. You may not see many resale contracts from newer resorts at first. With time, people change their mind for various reasons and they become available for resale.

Aside from booking restrictions related to Disney's Riviera Resort and resorts built after it, Disney Vacation Club resale works the same as if you bought directly. There are perks and benefits that you get buying direct instead of resale but none of those perks or benefits are guaranteed. The discounts you get with the special digital Membership Card by purchasing a minimum of 150 DVC points from Disney are not huge. You may be receiving them already with a Disney Annual Pass or Disney Chase Visa. These discounts can not be stacked.

Resale Members can not visit any Disney Vacation Club lounge but these are also not guaranteed. With resale DVC, you do get the amazing 11 month out, home resort booking advantage just the same. When overnight guests had to pay for parking at resorts, DVC Members did not.

When it comes to what really matters, booking annual, magical vacations, DVC resale is the same. If you want to be able to book at resorts outside of your home resort, make sure to buy at one of the original 14 DVC resorts.
