Spring is here in Orlando and there's a lot of magic, and pollen, in the air! April 2025 closes Jellyrolls Dueling Piano Bar, a long time favorite at the Disney's BoardWalk. We've also got news about the Epcot Spaceship Earth lounge. The Magic Kingdom DVC lounge opened a few weeks ago, too! We've got the Disney World news you need to know here for planning purposes. We'll take a look at lots of upcoming dates to know for 2025 along with our regular line up of recent news.

What's New at Disney World April 2025

Easter is upon the most magical place on earth with lots of special treats at the resorts and parks. The Easter egg displays return at the Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Beach Club and the Contemporary in 2025. While most resorts have had treats for a few weeks, all of the Disney Easter egg displays are now open as of April. The Grand Floridian is always the most elaborate!

The Little Mermaid Show at Hollywood Studios Reopens May 27

We've been covering Disney's reopening efforts for years as many things haven't returned after the pandemic. The Voyage of The Little Mermaid show at Hollywood Studios is one of the big things that never reopened. There are many small shows that haven't returned but this was one of the most recognizable attractions missing due to its big marquee. Disney announced in the last few years that Ariel would be singing in the Animation Courtyard theater again though a bit later than originally anticipated. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is not just a reopening but a reimagining of the former show that closed in the same space.

Disney has shared that The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will open May 27.

No previews have been announced. As always, we could see the show soft open before then. It's worth checking for if you're in the park in May. Traditionally, Disney is known for opening attractions slated for summer in late May which is a few weeks earlier than the season begins. This gives more people a chance to visit on their summer time trips.

Disney Villains Show Opening at Hollywood Studios on May 27

There is also a brand new show opening at Hollywood Studios. This is a Disney Villains themed show next to the Tower of Terror. It's taking over the space of the short lived Lightning McQueen attraction. The name of the show is Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. It will also utilize screens but has visits from some villains in person.

Disney has shared that Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After will open on May 27.

There have not been any previews announced for this either as of now. We will have to see if there are previews or a soft opening before the late may debut. Remember this is different than the Magic Kingdom villains land. Read more: Hollywood Studios Villains Show

Spaceship Earth Lounge Details: Name, Age Limit & Reservations

Additional details about the new Spaceship Earth lounge have been released. The name of the lounge is GEO-82. This is a word play on geodesic sphere, the technical shape name of the ball attraction, and 1982 which is the year Epcot opened. GEO-82 is scheduled to open in late spring.

Disney also shared the GEO-82 lounge has an age limit. This is an adult only lounge and guests need to be 21 and up to enter. It's said to have "scenic views, innovative cocktails and exquisite small plates." The concept art shows excellent firework views. You're also near the front of the park when it's time to leave so that's nice for those boarding the monorail or busses or heading to their car or a ride share. 

Reservations are required in order to visit GEO-82. This is not just a lounge for Disney Vacation Club Members. Anyone in the park can try to book a reservation.

Whispering Canyon Cafe Refurbishment & Special Menus

There will be a special brunch menu available at Whispering Canyon on both Easter, April 20, and Mother's Day, May 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Regular breakfast and lunch menus will not be available.

From May 12 through May 21, 2025, Whispering Canyon Café will be closed for refurbishment.

There are quite a few other dining options at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge:

• Geyser Point Bar & Grill
• Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White

Monsters Inc Coaster Ride Vehicle Revealed in Artist Concept

Recently, Disney announced the Monsters Inc land coming to Hollywood Studios will replace the Muppets area in the park. The Monsters Inc door coaster has been a dream of fans since the movie came out in 2001. That dream will be a reality when the land opens in the coming years. At the 2025 SXSW conference, Disney shared a concept of what the ride vehicles will look like in the loading area. We can see the entire track lift a row of seats that sit two by two. Your legs will dangle in these seats! That's a first for Disney. The Monsters Inc. door coaster is still expected to be a family thrill ride and not one of the wildest rides in town.

The Mandolorian and Grogu Come to the Millennium Falcon in 2026

Another SXSW announcement, we discovered that The Mandolorian and Grogu will be added to the existing Millennium Falcon attraction at both Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands. Similar to Star Tours, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run is able to update its story line by changing out ride videos.

Fans can look forward to enjoying this new version of the ride when it debuts the same day The Mandalorian and Grogu movie comes out on May 22, 2026.

Disney World Water Parks Update

 The Disney World water parks have been open one at a time since reopening after 2020. Typically, March is the time when Blizzard Beach closes and Typhoon Lagoon reopens.

Blizzard Beach will celebrate its 30th anniversary then close for refurbishment on April 30, 2025. Typhoon Lagoon will be open starting May 1.

Remember this year Disney has a special offer for resort guests that allows them to visit a water park for free on their check in day. This applies to Disney Vacation Club Members, too.

Disney After Hours 2025 Typhoon Lagoon Dates

Disney H2O Glow After Hours will return in 2025, starting in late May. The Typhoon Lagoon event is from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on select dates Tickets are $85 plus tax for adults and $42.50 plus tax for kids ages 3 to 9. The price for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members is $15 less for Disney After Hours events at Typhoon Lagoon this year. Event dates are:

Grand Floridian Lobby Refurbishment Continues

Disney announced the lobby and convention center will be receiving enhancements starting in April. This refurbishment will wrap up before the holiday season.

"Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be receiving enhancements to select areas in phases, including the lobby and convention center, from April through November 2025. Guests may see and hear construction during daytime hours, and portions of the lobby will be closed at times. All pools and most resort dining and other amenities will remain available. Please allow extra time for travel, as path adjustments may be in place."

This is a continuation of the resort refurbishment that has been going on for years at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. It feels like every space at this resort is newer. Roofs, rooms, restaurants and more have all had a complete refresh over the last few years. One of the last remaining things in consideration is the Garden View Tea Room. It has not reopened since the pandemic.

Epic Universe Details Unveiled

Many Orlando visitors, DVC Members included, visit both Disney and Universal on their trips. As we get closer to the opening of the brand new Universal theme park on May 22, we will be sharing details as they become available. We now know all of the lands, rides, restaurants, height requirements and which attractions will have single rider access. This is pretty exciting! If you download the Universal Orlando Resort app you can now see the map of Epic Universe. It has a lot of information that might help you plan your day or even choose to visit if you weren't already.

Back at Disney World as of April 2025?

Disney closed and reopened in 2020 as a totally different place. Over the years, exciting milestones have taken place like character interactions returning. However many offerings never came back or are still on hold. We do our best to continue to share things as they come back. The Disney World news April 2025 update did not bring any major, recent returns.

Disney did announce that the Grand Floridian lobby refurbishment, or enhancements, will pick back up again. We'll see if that means anything for the temporarily unavailable tea room!
