For a long time, many Disney Vacation Club villas featured a pull-out sleeper sofa in the living area. These fold-out couches did the job, but they were never anyone's favorite place to sleep — the mattresses were thin, the frames were heavy to unfold, and they took over the entire living room once deployed.

In more recent years, Disney has been steadily upgrading DVC rooms with what members call Murphy beds or pull-down beds — the Inova brand wall-mounted sofa bed system that features a real mattress hidden behind a sofa-style front panel. During the day it looks like a stylish couch. At night, the panel pulls down to reveal a proper bed with a real mattress, and each one is finished with beautiful, resort-themed artwork on the face of the unit. Many larger villas also feature a secondary single pull-down bed tucked under the TV console, adding a dedicated sleeping spot without the bulk of a traditional trundle.

The DVC resort pull-down beds really do upgrade the room experience — providing more comfortable sleeping options and a cleaner transition between living space and sleeping quarters. This guide covers which resorts have them now, which are getting them soon, and what to know before you book.

What's the Difference Between a Murphy Bed and a Pull-Out Sofa?

Great question — they're not the same thing, even though they're sometimes lumped together. Here's the distinction:

• Pull-out sleeper sofa (the old standard): The sofa unfolds to reveal a thin, built-in mattress on a metal frame. These are fine in a pinch, but the mattresses are notoriously thin and uncomfortable for multi-night stays, and unfolding them takes up significant floor space.
• Murphy bed / Inova pull-down bed (the new standard): The sofa front panel pulls down to reveal a full-depth, real mattress mounted in a wall unit. The bed doesn't take up any additional floor space — it folds back into the wall when not in use. These sleep far better than the old sleeper sofas and feel like a proper bed.
• Single pull-down bed: A secondary bed, usually built under the TV console, that pulls down to provide a twin-sized sleeping surface. Added to studios and larger villas during recent refurbishments as part of the same Inova system.

The single pull-down bed addition is particularly notable for studios — it effectively adds a dedicated sleeping spot for a fifth person in some room types, though not all studios have had their official capacity increased. Always check current room capacity before booking.

Resort-by-Resort Details

Disney's Riviera Resort ✅

The Riviera Resort was the first DVC property to feature the Inova Murphy beds when it opened in 2019, and it set the standard for every refurbishment that followed. Every room type at Riviera — from the Tower Studio to the Three Bedroom Grand Villa — has the pull-down Murphy bed in the living area. Studios also have the single pull-down bed under the TV. The artwork on the bed faces is inspired by a European travel poster aesthetic, perfectly matched to the resort's theme.

Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa ✅ / ⏳

Saratoga Springs was the first Walt Disney World DVC resort to receive Murphy beds when it completed a major refurbishment in 2021. The main resort buildings have pull-down Murphy beds across all villa types. However, the Treehouse Villas were not part of that refurbishment cycle — they retained their sleeper sofas and are now in the middle of their own refurbishment, which began in 2025. Murphy beds are expected to be added to the Treehouses upon completion.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa ✅

The Grand Floridian villas received a soft goods refurbishment in 2021 alongside the Polynesian. All villa types — Deluxe Studio, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, and Three Bedroom Grand Villa — received the Inova pull-down Murphy bed in place of the sleeper sofa. The artwork on the bed faces is beautifully on-theme with the resort's Victorian aesthetic.

Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows ✅

Both the original longhouse villas and the new Island Tower (which opened December 2024) have Murphy beds. The original villas received them as part of a 2021 soft goods refurbishment. The Island Tower opened brand new with Murphy beds built in from the start. All room types at the Polynesian — including the iconic Bungalows — have the pull-down Murphy bed system.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort ✅

Bay Lake Tower just completed its first full hard goods refurbishment since opening in 2009. The project ran from September 2024 through September 2025 and is now fully complete. The refurbishment replaced the old sleeper sofa and sleeper chair with a Queen Pull-Down Murphy Bed (featuring Mary Blair-inspired artwork of Cinderella Castle and Tomorrowland) and a single pull-down Murphy bed located under the Smart TV. Deluxe Studios received the Queen Murphy Bed and maintain a capacity of 4 guests. One Bedroom and Two Bedroom Villas gained both the queen Murphy and the single pull-down. The artwork throughout is vibrant, Mary Blair-inspired, and anchored to Magic Kingdom's history — a big upgrade from the Incredibles theme that previously occupied the main Contemporary tower hotel rooms.

Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge ✅

Boulder Ridge completed a long-overdue full refurbishment in early 2023, and the results were warmly received. Murphy beds were added to all room types, with bold colors and artwork featuring Mickey and friends with nods to the national parks era. The One Bedroom Villa is worth a specific note: Disney's own website describes the One Bedroom Villa as having either "1 King Bed and 1 Queen-Size Pull-Down Bed" or "1 King Bed and 1 Queen-Size Sleeper Sofa," suggesting there may still be a mix of both configurations in the building. If a Murphy bed is important to you at Boulder Ridge, it's worth contacting Disney to request one, understanding that room requests are not guaranteed.

📝 Note: Boulder Ridge One Bedroom Villa room requests for Murphy beds vs. sleeper sofas may not be honored — check with Disney before booking if this is a priority for your party.

Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Wilderness Lodge ✅

Murphy beds are confirmed for Copper Creek following a soft goods refurbishment that ran from May to September 2025. This was Copper Creek's first refurbishment since opening in 2017. The Inova bed manufacturer confirmed their involvement in the project, making this official. However, Copper Creek's room layouts present some unique constraints — the soffit above the sofa area limits available height in some villa types, and it's possible that not every room configuration received the Murphy bed. If a Murphy bed is essential for your Copper Creek stay, it's worth checking with Disney directly for the most current room type details.

📝 Note: The Cabins at Fort Wilderness (a separate DVC resort, not part of Copper Creek) also have Murphy beds — the resort opened in 2024 with the Inova system built in.

The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort ✅

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness opened as a Disney Vacation Club resort in July 2024 following a major renovation of the original Fort Wilderness cabins. The Cabins are a unique one-category resort — each cabin functions as a large standalone villa with multiple sleeping areas. Murphy beds are included in the configuration, making them one of the newer resorts where pull-down beds are simply the standard from day one.

Disney's Beach Club Villas ✅

Beach Club Villas completed a full refurbishment in 2023 that brought Murphy beds to all room types. The bed artwork features Donald Duck and his nephews, giving the rooms a playful, beach-club feel. All villa types — Deluxe Studio, One Bedroom, and Two Bedroom — have the pull-down Murphy bed. Note that room capacities did not change with this refurbishment — a One Bedroom Villa still sleeps up to four guests and a Two Bedroom sleeps up to eight.

Disney's BoardWalk Villas ✅

BoardWalk Villas completed a hard goods refurbishment in 2024. The refurbishment added both the Queen Pull-Down Murphy Bed and the single pull-down bed to all room types. The beds feature colorful carnival-themed artwork that echoes the BoardWalk's festive atmosphere. Some members have noted the overall new room aesthetic is more modern and less distinctively BoardWalk-themed than the previous design — but the beds themselves are a genuine upgrade.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas — Kidani Village ✅ (rolling)

Kidani Village is currently in the middle of its first full hard goods refurbishment, which began in October 2025 and runs through May 2026. Refurbished rooms started becoming available to guests in December 2025. The new rooms feature Queen Pull-Down Murphy Beds with a stunning Animal Kingdom map artwork on the face, and interior Lion King character artwork above the mattress when the bed is pulled down. A second pull-down bed under the TV features Timon, Pumbaa, and Simba artwork. It's genuinely one of the most beautiful Murphy bed installations in the DVC system. As the refurbishment completes in phases, not every room at Kidani will have a Murphy bed right away — guests staying later in the project timeline have a higher chance of being assigned a refurbished room.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas — Jambo House ⏳

Jambo House is next on the Animal Kingdom refurbishment schedule, with work expected to run from May 2026 through January 2027. Murphy beds are confirmed for the project, similar to what Kidani is receiving. The Value Villas at Jambo are among the smallest villa types in the DVC system — some room layout constraints may affect placement. Until refurbishment is complete, Jambo House rooms retain their original sleeper sofas.

Disney's Old Key West Resort ⚠️

Disney's Old Key West is scheduled for a soft goods refurbishment in 2026. Murphy beds may be added to select rooms — but the layout of Old Key West villas presents a unique challenge. Many of the living areas at Old Key West have windows on two walls, significantly limiting where a large wall-mounted Murphy bed unit can be installed. DVC executives have acknowledged this constraint publicly. Some rooms may receive Murphy beds while others retain updated sleeper sofas. More details should emerge as the refurbishment gets underway later in 2026.

What About DVC Resorts Not on This List?

This guide covers Walt Disney World DVC resorts. A few additional notes on other properties:

• Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa (Hawaii): Aulani did not receive Murphy beds in its 2021 renovation, likely due to similar layout constraints as Old Key West and the complexity of shipping construction materials to Hawaii. A hard goods refurbishment is anticipated around 2028, and Murphy beds may be added at that time.
• Hilton Head Island Resort: Received a full refurbishment in 2023–2024 that included Murphy beds in all room types.
• Vero Beach Resort: Received a soft goods refurbishment in 2023–2024. Murphy beds were added where the room layout allowed.
• Villas at Disneyland Hotel (California): Opened in 2023 as brand new construction. Murphy beds included from the start.
• Villas at Grand Californian Hotel & Spa (California): Completed a hard goods refurbishment in 2025. Murphy beds confirmed as part of the update.

Tips for Booking a Murphy Bed Room

If having a Murphy bed is important for your trip — especially for a studio or one bedroom where the living room sleeping setup affects your whole party — here are a few things to keep in mind:

• For resorts mid-refurbishment (AKL Jambo, Saratoga Treehouses): Book stays closer to the refurbishment completion date for the best chance of a refurbished room. Disney generally takes rooms out of inventory before they're available in the booking engine.
• For Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek: Room requests are accepted but not guaranteed. If a Murphy bed is a priority, call Disney Vacation Club Member Services and note your preference. Booking early also helps.
• For Old Key West in 2026: Keep an eye on member communications about the refurbishment progress. If Murphy beds are only added to select rooms, confirmed details should emerge as construction gets underway.
• Check the official Disney room descriptions: Each room type's page on the Disney Vacation Club website lists the current bed configuration. This is the most reliable source for what a specific room type will have when you arrive.
