Best DVC Resort to Buy Resale

Best DVC Resort to Buy Resale

Disney trips are pricey in general but there’s no doubting Disney Vacation Club is a big spend. After all, by making the commitment to join DVC, you’re paying for years of hotel stays in advance! It does pay off, though, when you consider the savings you receive over time. By booking with points you’re basically purchasing hotel stays for many years to come but fixed at today’s prices. As cash prices continue to rise, you won’t be affected it. Those who purchase resale DVC save even more as per point prices are noticeably lower. Many actually save thousands of dollars buying resale instead of direct. Now you just need to decide which resort is right for you. With so many to choose from, picking a home resort can be overwhelming. Let’s discuss how to decide the best DVC Resort to buy resale at. It will vary based on things like your travel party’s needs, your theming preference and your budget. The following tips should help you consider what’s important to you when picking a resort.

Best DVC Resort to Buy Resale

Are All DVC Resort Available For Resale?

First of all, can you even buy resale DVC at any resort you want? DVC Resale availability is based on what owners decide to sell their points. While it is possible to buy any Disney Vacation Club resort as your home resort, it really just depends on what contracts are listed at the moment. This is a big and important decision so you want to think about the details first. Prepare to give yourself some time to make sure you get the contract you want. It’s, of course, not undoable. If later on you decide you want a different home resort, you can absolutely sell resale DVC and buy a new contract. The one Disney Vacation Club Resort you won’t find as many resale contracts available for is The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel. At Walt Disney World, there are eleven DVC resorts. At Disneyland Resort, there’s only one. At least until the proposed Disneyland Hotel Disney Vacation Club property debuts. But the demand far surpasses what’s available. So not as many people sell out west.

All DVC resorts are able to be sold on the resale market. However, not every Disney resort has a Disney Vacation Club component. DVC resorts are in the Deluxe tier of resorts. This means you won’t find any home resorts that are moderate or value level properties. The Disney Vacation Club home resort options are:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas

Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney’s Beach Club Villas

Disney’s BoardWalk Villas

Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel

The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

Disney’s Riviera Resort

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

Disney’s Vero Beach Resort

Disney’s Riviera Resort Had Additional Restrictions

Note Disney’s Riviera Resort is in a category of its own when it comes to resale. While other resorts remain flexible with booking on points, Riviera does not. When you buy resale at Disney’s Riviera Resort you can only use your points to book there. When you buy resale DVC at any other resort, you can use those points to book at other DVC properties but not Riviera. This may be true of resorts built after Riviera as well. If you know you love Riviera and always want to stay there, this might not be an issue. Riviera has a beautiful pool on a lake, a great location with Disney Skyliner transport to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and interesting dining options. It could be your favorite! Yet if you’re hoping for the option to stay at properties other than your home resort, you’ll need to keep looking beyond Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Don’t Just Go For The Best Price Because…

The home resort with the lowest price per point is not necessarily the best DVC resort to buy resale at for you personally. There are eleven home resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. If you always want to go to Disney World, buying lower cost points somewhere else like Disney’s Vero Beach Resort or Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort might not be helpful. The best case scenario for buying at these other properties would be that you want to stay there always or most of the time, have flexible travel dates and are open to staying wherever else is available seven months out.

The most effective way to pick a resort to buy a DVC resale contract at is to choose the one you want to stay at the most. Yes, Disney is flexible with its point based timeshare. However, the eleven month out booking advantage can truly make a difference when you’re planning your trips. When booking with points, you want to make sure you’ll enjoy staying at your home resort. Booking seven months out at other resorts is possible but will depend on availability.

Tips For Choosing a DVC Resale Home Resort

If you have a few resorts you love and can’t decide between them, perhaps consider the parks or offerings at Walt Disney World you spend the most time at. If food festivals are your favorite, maybe a DVC resort near Epcot is for you. If you love to end the day dining at Disney Springs, Saratoga Springs could be a good fit.

Remember the pool is something to think about too. If you never visit the pool it might not be important but if you always like to include a pool day on your trip, make sure your potential home resort has one you’d like to spend time at.

Some more things to consider to help you decide are the price per point and the point charts. Disney Vacation Club Point charts are different for each resort. Make sure you consider how long of a stay you’d like to have each year and that the point value allows that expectation to happen. For example, on the 2022 point chart, 100 points at Disney’s Old Key West Resort will get you a week long stay any time outside of the busiest times throughout the year. During the same calendar year, you would need a minimum of 150 points to stay for a week at the Grand Floridian. Each resort has a different price per point and those points book different lengths of vacation at different properties. The length of time you want to vacation each year can affect your budget depending on what home resort you choose.
