No matter how careful you are, if you’re traveling there’s always chance you’ll be exposed to someone who is covid positive, especially when numbers are up. At a place like Walt Disney World, there are travelers from every corner of the planet. The Walt Disney World website says, “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.” So what do you do if you wake up on a Disney trip with symptoms? DVC Members are regulars who have been there time and time again and done it all but this is something totally different. It’s much easier to find a test these days and we’re looking at a few options below so you can decide what’s best for you if symptoms appear when you’re on a DVC stay.
DVC Covid Testing Information
None of this is health advice, just some tips to help you find a covid test when you might need it. Also note that not all covid tests are free with some administered by a health care professional costing in the hundreds, even with insurance. Make sure to ask about costs up front. It’s also true that not all covid tests are equally accurate. Talk to a healthcare provider about the differences in accuracy and what’s right for you.
Are There Covid Testing Sites Near Walt Disney World?
Throughout 2020 and 2021, free covid testing sites were widely accessible off and on in the Orlando area. More would open as numbers climbed. These days, covid testing is more often done at home, urgent care centers, doctor’s offices and other health facilities. At one point there was a covid testing site behind Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park in the parking lot of a Disney facility known as Maingate. This was a partnership between Disney and the local government and available for all to use including guests, cast members and other locals. This and most other testing sites have since closed as covid tests have become easily attainable through the government, widely available for purchase and available in health care settings.
DVC Covid Testing Through AdventHealth Care Concierge
In the thick of the pandemic, AdventHealth and Walt Disney World Resort formed a partnership to bring a safer vacation experience to guests. AdventHealth is now considered the “Official Health Care Provider at Walt Disney World Resort.” But what does that really mean? According to the AdventHealth website:
“As the Official Health Care Provider at Walt Disney World Resort, AdventHealth is here to support your health care needs throughout your Disney vacation. AdventHealth offers Walt Disney World Guests access to a nationally recognized care network, 24/7 virtual care, onsite urgent care, and medical equipment delivery.”
Guests can call 407-939-7480 to speak with an AdventHealth Care Concierge from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and ask for the nearest covid testing location. There is also an AdventHealth hospital located just off of Disney property with an emergency room.
Covid Testing Near Disney at Drug Stores
CVS offers covid testing and there are plenty in the Walt Disney World area. You may need to download the CVS app to book an appointment for a covid test. The closest and most convenient drug store depends on where your DVC resort is located on property. Because Walt Disney World Resort is so big, about the size of New York City, you may want to look at directions or an overhead map. There is a CVS very close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas and another in the Celebration area close to the World Drive entrance of Walt Disney World. If Walgreens is your preferred store, those are in the area as well. Most drug stores carry at home covid tests for sale. In these locations, remember you can probably use your HSA and FSA card to pay for covid tests.
Free Covid Tests from USPS
If by chance you’re reading this to plan in advance, you can order free covid tests from the government through the United States Postal Service. These can take a few weeks to arrive but they’re good to have on hand. If you’re traveling by plane with them, they do contain tiny liquid containers so remember to have them accessible at security check points.
Even if you need a covid test while you’re at Disney, ordering these free at home covid tests may still help you. You or someone in your family may need to test in the coming weeks and if you order them now and have them delivered to your home soon it’s possible you’ll have them on hand so you can see you’re no longer covid positive or continuing to test negative.
