What Happens to Original DVC Membership Card During Resale

What Happens to Original DVC

Here on the DVC Resale Experts Blog, we like to share information to help potential DVC buyers and sellers learn details about the DVC resale process. Maybe you’re thinking about selling your Disney Vacation Club Membership on the resale market and wondering what happens to your Membership card. If you lost it, don’t worry. Or, perhaps, you’re considering buying DVC resale and wondering what happens to the original DVC Membership card during resale transactions? And is the DVC Membership card even important?

What happens to the original DVC Membership Card during resale?

First let’s talk about why the Disney Vacation Club Membership card matters. The blue or white DVC Membership card, depending on your status, allows you to prove that you’re eligible for certain perks that come along with Disney Vacation Club. For those that purchase DVC directly from Disney, that might include discounts on Disney dining and merchandise. For those who buy resale, that might include getting into the Top of the World Lounge when it’s open. You don’t receive all of the perks when you buy resale but the amount you save upfront buying resale makes it worth it. Plus, if you have a Disney Chase Visa or Disney Annual Pass you may already be receiving comparable discounts on Disney food and merch.

So what happens to the original DVC Membership Card during resale? Well, nothing. As of late 2021, physical Disney Vacation Club Membership Cards expired and were no longer sent out to Members. The company decided to go the digital route starting in 2022 and Disney Vacation Club Membership cards are now tied into your My Disney Experience App. In order to prove eligibility you will need to show your digital DVC Membership Card in the app. It’s tied directly to your Membership, whether you buy resale or direct, and is blue or white depending on what kind of card and Membership you have. Those who purchase resale get a white DVC Membership Card. Members who have a blue DVC Membership Card bought direct from Disney. In order to get a blue card today, new Members must purchase a minimum of 150 points from Disney directly. When you research and discover how much you save initially buying DVC resale, the thought of nominal blue card discounts becomes much less appealing.
