Can You Buy Someone’s DVC Membership?

Can You Buy Someone's DVC Membership?

The Disney timeshare gives its Members the opportunity to purchase decades of Deluxe Disney hotel stays at once. Booking with DVC points offers a much better value when compared to what it costs to book rooms with cash. Buying Disney Vacation Club is an exciting thought but also quite pricey. It might leave you thinking about how to pay the best possible price to join. So can you buy someone’s DVC Membership? Yes! And it’s more official than you might think..

Can You Buy Someone’s DVC Membership?

Yes, you can buy someone else’s DVC Membership. These kinds of Memberships are referred to as resale DVC. Reselling Disney Vacation Club is legal and, more than that, there is actually a professional industry dedicated to the reselling of Disney Vacation Club contracts. Though Disney Vacation Club reselling is absolutely allowed, DVC does not have its own resale department. Instead, DVC recommends Members interested in selling ‘independently find a licensed real estate broker.’ Resale DVC transactions are similar to other real estate transactions in some ways. There aren’t showings or inspections, of course, but there are contracts, negotiating offers and a closing process.

When you buy someone’s DVC Membership it’s a full and complete transfer. The new owner’s name goes on the Membership and they book stays using their own points. The new owner also takes over the annual dues. It truly becomes the Membership of the new owner with no connection to the original or former owner. It is possible to rent resale points out and also possible to sell a resale DVC contract should the new owner decide it’s no longer a good fit for them.

There are some differences between DVC resale and direct. When you buy from Disney you get some additional perks like discounts and the ability to attend Members only events. The biggest difference between buying DVC resale and direct is the price. It’s possible to save thousands buying resale. For example, in order to buy a Disney Vacation Club contract at a Walt Disney World Resort property, the minimum amount a new buyer would need to spend buying direct is $190 per point. This would be for a Membership at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. On the resale DVC market, per point prices for Boulder Ridge have been around $116 in early 2022. That’s a difference of $74 per point and would amount to a savings of over $11,000 for a 150 point contract. This point value is pretty standard for those who like to vacation for about a week or so each year. Learn more in our post: What Do You Not Get By Buying DVC Resale?
