What Benefits Do You Lose By Buying DVC Resale vs Direct

Disney Parks have become a treasured vacation destination beloved by travelers. With incredible entertainment, attractions and food offerings, it’s no surprise guests love to return each year and the Disney timeshare makes that a reality for many. If you want to be part of that world, you’ll be delighted to know you have options like resale Disney Vacation Club. Resale DVC makes it possible to purchase a contract from a Member that’s selling instead of Disney directly and at a much better price. With a big purchase like Disney timeshare, it’s likely you have questions like ‘what benefits do you lose by buying DVC resale vs direct?’ The DVC Resale Experts blog has a wide assortment of posts, answering questions about the resale process, per point pricing, timelines for buying and selling, resort updates and more.

What Benefits Do You Lose By Buying DVC Resale vs Direct?

On the official Disney Vacation Club website you can see what is included with Disney Vacation Club resale and direct. Let’s discuss these benefits, weigh what might be important and what might not really matter.

DVC Resale vs Direct Booking Benefits

When you buy resale DVC, you have less flexibility with how you can use your points. Disney Collection Resorts, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney and the Concierge Collection are not able to be booked with resale DVC points. In the opinion of many, the best use of your points will be using them to book at your Home Resort. For example, booking a Disney Cruise with your points does not work out to be the best value in most cases. You are able to use resale points to book the World Collection if you so choose. Also important, you can’t book Disney’s Riviera Resort with resale points unless it’s your Home Resort and if Riviera is your Home Resort, you can’t book at other DVC resorts.

Discounts for DVC

Resale DVC does not come with the Disney Vacation Club shopping, dining, recreation or ticket discounts. In some cases, there are restrictions on these discounts any way like only being eligible at certain times, certain places like lunch for example. The most exciting DVC discount for many was the Annual Pass discount and that has been quite deflated since the restructuring of that program. If you have an Annual Pass or Disney Chase Visa you are likely already receiving comparable Disney discounts and this shouldn’t deter you from buying resale.

Member Extras

Exclusive Member Events and Member Cruises are not available to resale DVC members. If this is an absolute must for you, you’ll want to consider DVC resale vs. direct. Keep in mind that Member Events aren’t guaranteed, usually sell out and can have other restrictions like needing to have a room reservation at the time of the event. Access to DVC Member exclusive spaces, like Top of the World Lounge, is not included with resale.
